The Frankenstein Monster has been stomping around Marvel comics since the 1940s. Victor's original had his own title in the 1970s, and met heroes such as Spider-man (above). Back in the '40s, however, Basil Frankenstein, a descendant of Victor's with Nazi sympathies, made his own creature. It battled Captain America in USA Comics #13 and (in 1978), in the retro-40s Invaders #31 (above).

In between, Marvel's own misunderstood heroes, the X-Men, battled a Frankenstein-like monster. This one was an android of uncertain origin.

All of his Marvel incarnations have been modelled on Universal Studios' version.
