Adventure Comics' 1991 series Ape Nation ranks among the most bizarre crossover concepts in comix history: the 60s/70s Planet of the Apes movie series crosses with Alien Nation, the 1988 movie. Both "Apes" and "Alien" were followed by short-lived tv series, and both took place in timelines which diverge most significantly from our own in the late twentieth century (at least, that appears to be the case in the later Apes films; finding continuity in the series overall is a thankless task). But why put the two together? What was the appeal of an earth with both furry-faced intelligent apes and spotty-headed Tenctonese extra-terrestrials?
